Green Season (May-October) is a special time to travel to Phuket (especially for those of Thais and expats in Thailand). Traveling in this season can save lot of budget compares to high season.

Green Season is a comfort , no rush, and budget saving season. If you plan to travel in this season, it is no need to book long time in advance for an accommodation and air ticket like you have to do in high season; except in weekend (Saturday and Sunday). Since low cost airlines operate to Phuket, there are more tourists travel to Phuket during weekend.

Why we said that “You can save lot of budget if travelling in Green Season”, because many hotels both city hotel and resort try to offer special price or launch special promotions for their customers. Car rental companies also offer cheaper car rental rate in Green Season.

How to plan travelling to Phuket in Green Season?

If let me recommend about planing your trip to Phuket, I think the main cost you should consider would be an accommodation and air ticket. From my experience, for hotels & resorts, you can get the cheapest price at  Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) events, for example, Thailand Travel Expo in Bangkok. Some hotels and resorts may be reduced room rate up to 80%. Stay in luxury resort in the 3-star hotels price would be great!

For air ticket, Air Asia (Airline) always offers special discount for booking in advance for the flights during green season. If you book via internet, you can get the cheapest price. However, long time booking in advance is require. Also, you can find low cost air ticket at TAT events.

If you don’t have the opportunity to go to TAT event, you can find an accommodation and air ticket from websites. In my opinion, booking in advance will be cheaper for 4-5 star hotel. But for 3 star hotels, booking in advance is not quite necessary, walk in guests can also get cheap prices.

The tourists who will visit Phuket in early 2011, if not book a car rental in advance, might be disappointed. Because there are very high demand of rental cars January, and some  car types were fully book already.

In fact, not only for car rental, but also accommodations have been almost fully reserved as well. I think  may be  because we have less tourists during November to December last year (much less than usual). Tourists may go to Phuket during beginning of this year instead. I talked to some friends in hotel business, they also said that room occupancies of November and December are very low compare with previous years.

I ‘m not sure if it’s because of rumors about a tsunami would happen in Phuket that affected to number of tourists before New Year. But after the New Year, lots of tourists and travelers were back to Phuket.

For your convenience, if you plan to visit Phuket in January and February, don’t forget to reserve accommodation and car rent in advance. This will help you escape the trouble when you arrive to Phuket.

– Don’t for get to drive on the LEFT in Thailand.

– Be careful of  motorbikes because the motorbikes may be on everywhere around you.

Be Careful cars and motorbikes from roadside or junction. Sometimes they just drive out without notice, although you are on the main street.

– Some cars or motorbikes may drive against you on roadside, espicially on ” Thep Krasattri” road.

In the center of Phuket town, there is a one-way road system. Please, observe the sign before drive on.

In Patong Beach area, there have two main roads on the beach front which is the one way system. Be careful when you want to drive from one road to another, because you have to drive on the right.

Before parking, please observe the traffic sign. Do NOT park along the road that show ” Do not Park” sign or on the footpath that paint
the ” White-Yellow” and “White -Red” color.

Do NOT leave the valuable things in your car. The bad people may break the windows, and take your stuff. This is not happen often, but it’s better to prevent it.
